Nicola Tesla
Born- 10/7/1856 died-7/1/1943
From- Smiljan, Siberia
Occupation- Tesla was a brilliant inventor who worked for various companies. At the time of the fair he was working for Westinghouse.
What he invented for the World’s Fair- His invention of AC (Alternating Current) and lights provided most, if not all, electricity/lighting at the fair.
Why this invention was revolutionary- It was the first major introduction of the AC current. Alternating Current was important because it could travel further than Edison’s Direct Current technology. DC would have needed a generator every square mile, AC current could travel farther due to the fact that it used thinner wires. Edison and Tesla had to compete to see who would win the electricity contract for the fair. After Tesla’s invention was featured at the fair it was then put in place throughout the world to provide electricity to people.

George Ferris
Born-14/1/1859 Died-22/11/1896
From- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, America
Occupation- bridge builder, G.W.G, Ferris & Co.
What he invented for the World’s Fair-Ferris wheel.
Why this invention was revolutionary- It was the first major introduction of the “observation wheel.” Ferris’ wheel was an impressive structure. It opened 6 weeks after the fair started because of approval delays. It could carry up to 2160 people at a time. The 36 passenger cars were the size of a railroad car and had a capacity of 60 people per car. 2 revolutions took 20 minutes and every other revolution it would stop 6 times to let people off and on of 6 cars. The ride cost 50 cents and more than 1.5 million people rode the wheel at the fair. Within 2.5 months the wheel had paid for itself through ticket sales. Dimensions: 80.4 meters (264 feet) tall, the axle was 45.5 ft. long and weighed 71 tons (wheel's axle utilized the largest piece of steal ever forged).
